Overview

Do you love building secure, automated, and reliable platforms that let product teams ship faster with confidence? SGWS is scaling a modern engineering ecosystem across Azure and AWS. We’re looking for a senior technology leader to own the strategy and execution of DevSecOps and Automation Engineering—driving platform capabilities (CI/CD, IaC, secrets, policy-as-code), software supply chain security, observability, and reliability practices across a diverse digital portfolio. You will design the systems, standards, and operating models that enable dozens of product teams to deliver business value safely, repeatably, and at scale, while cultivating a high-performing, learning-oriented engineering culture.

Primary Responsibilities

Scope

  • Own the enterprise DevSecOps & Automation strategy and evolve the operating model, standards, and platform capabilities that serve multiple product groups across the portfolio.
  • Lead an organization of people leaders and senior ICs delivering CI/CD, IaC, cloud platform enablement, and security automation for 60–120+ engineers through platform teams and communities of practice.
  • Define and govern golden paths for build/test/release, environment provisioning, observability, and incident management; ensure friction-free adoption by product teams.

Impact

  • Set 1–2 year vision and quarterly objectives for DevSecOps and automation; align with Enterprise Architecture, Security, and Product leadership to drive portfolio outcomes.
  • Improve delivery speed and stability via measurable engineering metrics (e.g., DORA/flow) and reliability measures (SLOs/error budgets) with transparent reporting to stakeholders.
  • Ensure designs and solutions comply with SGWS architecture & engineering standards and are right-sized for risk.

DevSecOps & Platform Engineering

  • Build and operate shared platform services: source control, pipelines, artifact repositories, secret stores, image registries, policy engines, scanning services, and self-service environments.
  • Establish policy-as-code and pipeline compliance gates for security, privacy, and quality; manage exceptions with time-boxed risk acceptance and remediation.
  • Lead the software supply chain security program (SBOM, signing, provenance, dependency governance) and coordinate with GRC for audit readiness.
  • Partner with SRE leads to standardize observability, incident response, and post-incident learning across products.

Automation Engineering

  • Drive end-to-end automation across build, test, deploy, and run, including test automation strategies, environment automation, and toil elimination.
  • Curate reusable reference implementations and templates (infra, pipelines, service scaffolds) to accelerate product teams and reduce variability.

Leadership

  • Drive end-to-end automation across build, test, deploy, and run, including test automation strategies, environment automation, and toil elimination.
  • Curate reusable reference implementations and templates (infra, pipelines, service scaffolds) to accelerate product teams and reduce variability.
  • Build, coach, and retain diverse, high-performing teams; develop leaders of leaders and senior ICs; grow the internal talent pipeline.
  • Chair or sponsor Communities of Practice for platform, reliability, and secure development; scale influence through enablement programs.

Strategic Contribution

  • Translate business strategy into platform roadmaps and investment cases; sequence outcomes to maximize value while reducing risk.
  • Evaluate and govern build/partner/buy decisions, vendor performance, and total cost of ownership for platform capabilities.

Delivery & Operational Excellence

  • Ensure operational readiness and reliability for shared services (capacity planning, DR, runbooks, SLAs).
  • Lead major incident response as executive escalation point and drive a blameless learning culture.

Personal Development

  • Model continuous learning; sponsor certification paths and internal upskilling programs aligned to SGWS job family expectations.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years in software/platform engineering with 7+ years leading DevOps/DevSecOps/SRE/platform teams; experience leading multiple managers and cross-portfolio initiatives.
  • Proven success implementing enterprise CI/CD, IaC at scale, and security automation across hybrid cloud environments.
  • Track record improving engineering throughput and reliability using metrics (e.g., DORA, SLOs) and driving adoption across many teams.
  • Excellent communication with senior executives and technical audiences; strong stakeholder and change management skills.
  • Cloud & Platform: Azure and AWS services; landing zone architectures; container orchestration (AKS/EKS), serverless, and edge services.
  • CI/CD & Automation: We use Harness but familiarity with any of the following is relevant: GitHub/GitHub Actions / Azure DevOps; trunk-based development; progressive delivery (feature flags, blue/green, canary); pipeline compliance gates.
  • Infrastructure as Code: Terraform (preferred), Bicep/CloudFormation; environment provisioning; drift detection; multi-account/multi-subscription governance.
  • Security by Design: SAST, DAST, SCA, container/image scanning, SBOM, secrets management (Key Vault/Secrets Manager), signed builds, provenance/attestations, policy-as-code (e.g., OPA/Conftest).
  • Software Supply Chain: Dependency hygiene, vulnerability management, remediation SLAs, secure artifact registries, license compliance.
  • Observability & Reliability: Centralized logging, metrics, tracing; SLIs/SLOs/error budgets; synthetic monitoring; incident command and post-incident review.
  • Data Protection & Compliance: Zero trust principles; encryption, tokenization, data classification; alignment to SOC2/ISO standards in partnership with GRC.
  • Automation at Scale: Event-driven orchestration, workflow automation, ChatOps, self-service portals, golden paths/templates, and reusable reference architectures.
  • Leadership Toolkit: Engineering metrics (DORA/flow), org health measures, financial stewardship, vendor management, and leadership across multiple product groups.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant field.
  • Hands-on leadership with GitHub Enterprise/Azure DevOps, Terraform, Kubernetes, and cloud security controls.
  • Experience with software supply chain frameworks (e.g., SLSA), regulated environments, and external audits (SOC 2/ISO 27001).
  • Background building platform products and developer experience programs (DX).

Working Conditions & Additional Information

  • Location: Hybrid
  • Travel: 10–20% for cross-site collaboration and leadership forums
  • Work Schedule: Flexible; availability for leadership meetings and critical incidents as needed
  • On-Call: Not typically in rotation; serves as executive escalation point

Physical Demands

  • Physical demands with activity or condition for a considerable amount of time include sitting and typing/keyboarding using a computer (e.g., keyboard, mouse, and monitor) or mobile device
  • Physical demands with activity or condition may occasionally include walking, bending, reaching, standing, and stooping
  • May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 20lbs
