Overview
The Staff QA Integration Engineer plays a pivotal role within the test engineering organization, responsible for governing the enterprise integration testing strategy across SAP S/4Hana landscape. This role ensures data integrity and end-to-end transactional flow across integrated platforms including Kafka, Enterprise Service Bus (ESB), B2B/EDI, CPI and Datasphere. The Staff QA Integration Engineer works across multiple cross-functional initiatives, and collaborates closely with SAP architects, integration architects, development teams and third-party vendor technical teams. This role collaborates closely with Automation team to ensure data enablement and data sets availability- ensuring automation team has accurate, representative data to execute test cycles. Additionally, the Staff QA Integration Engineer will leverage expertise on the integrated systems to support development of complex systems that may have system-wide impact and managing this work across multiple teams to ensure the efficient delivery of high-quality products.
Primary Responsibilities
- Contributes to and helps evolve the integration testing strategy and quality gates within assigned platforms and across supported SAP integration initiatives.
- Maintain integration testing frameworks covering contract and end-to-end transactional flow testing.
- Validate Kafka integrations, producer/consumer behaviors and end to end event flow integrity.
- Lead end to end testing for SAP integrated systems Vistex, Vertex, OpenText and others.
- Build and maintain data validation frameworks verifying correctness, completeness and referential integrity across integration boundaries from source to target.
- Implement and support automated integration test gates and data integrity checks, maintain full traceability from requirement through test coverage.
- Proactively partners with architects and functional leads to evaluate testability of integration designs early; providing quality status reporting to leadership.
- Measure performance of various components (using simulated stress tests) and report any outliers/exceptions.
- Help perform impact analysis on changes to existing architecture, work processes, and systems.
- Support the set up and maintenance of test environments for both manual and automated testing.
- Provide root cause analysis on defects and documented issues and decide best solutions.
- Mentor junior engineers in implementing best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Computer Engineering, Information Systems) or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Typically, 5+ years of quality assurance testing, or other relevant roles work experience. Extensive experience using testing frameworks, tools, and test automation frameworks.
- Hand-on experience in producer/consumer validation, DLQ handling, and end-to-end event flow verification.
- Demonstrated experience in test data management and data validation framework design for structured and event-based data.
- Proven experience in SAP integration platforms, familiarity with CPI, OpenText, Vistex, etc.
- Experience with software design and development, testing practices, and quality assurance processes.
- Experience in DevOps and Agile technology environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Working knowledge of SAP S/4Hana integration architecture; IDoc processing, BAPI, CPI middleware validation
- Knowledge of data serialization formats – JSON, XML, Parquet
- Advanced knowledge of coding practices, concepts, and design patterns to create maintainable test frameworks.
- Expert analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong ability to creatively troubleshoot problems and work with cross-functional teams.
- Experience in leading and mentoring junior QA engineers.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative.
- Advanced knowledge of various types of testing, including functional, performance, and other non-functional tests.
- Strong quality assurance skills to implement rigorous testing processes.
- Advanced knowledge of testing frameworks, tools, and test automation frameworks.
- Demonstrated skills in performance and non-functional testing to understand how systems perform under specific conditions.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse roles throughout the organization to develop holistic testing strategies and select appropriate testing frameworks.
