Overview

This national leadership role owns the execution of our Last Mile Strategy across routing, dispatch, training, and day-to-day delivery operations, while owning core fleet utilization and performance.  The role combines national routing SOPs, performance and vendor management with hands-on fleet operations leadership — including fleet performance, utilization and local shop management — to drive transportation excellence. Critical stakeholder to leading the national outbound TMS implementations and delivery optimizations ranging from reroutes to operations playbook.

Ideal candidates demonstrate thought leadership, change management, problem identification and problem solving, the ability to make consistent progress in new ways of working, excellent relationship building, and strong field experience across routing, dispatch, outbound, fleet, and personnel management.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead monitoring, progress, and execution of Last Mile Strategy and delivery goals and priorities as part of Project Lumina 10-year initiatives
  • Ensure a successful transition to Omnitracs (OT1) and continuous improvement on routing metrics, data integrations and reporting
  • Develop National / Regional routing strategy and build re-routing processes that create sustainable, ongoing ways to improve service and reduce cost
  • Drive route optimization, asset capacity and utilization efficiencies; improve Route Quality Index and convert truck-capacity language to standardized weight and cube measures
  • Standardize route planning and dispatch SOPs, off-day delivery, and proof of pickup/return processes across all sites
  • Lead a team of technical experts across outbound logistics including Roadnet, Geotab, Lytx & Velocitor – among various other WMS and OTC systems
  • Support outbound TMS strategy in partnership with OneTech
  • Lead team to support Routing & Dispatch Community platform with national participation and standardized cadence
  • Build and administer a Last Mile certification program and standard onboarding/training guidelines for dispatching teams
  • Conduct weekly regional routing coaching sessions on all metric elements and lead performance reviews of routing/dispatch dashboards with sites
  • Establish training standards and SOPs for driver and router onboarding; drive e-learning engagement and completion during onboarding/training
  • Partner with Fleet Safety and Operational Transformation on Driver Academy, defensive driving, and continuous-improvement (Kaizen / Gemba / VSM) events such as pre/post-trip standardization
  • Establish and coach the 30/30 pre/post-trip time standard across all sites

Additional Primary Responsibilities

  • Support with Operations Leader development in managing fleet vendor relationship
  • Own Fleet Uptime (goal ≥ 95%) and PM Currency (goal ≥ 95–96%) reporting and communication; publish reports to corporate and regions and drive follow-ups on units below threshold
  • Partner on QBRs and business reviews to evolve the Ryder relationship from transactional to strategic, targeting year-over-year spend reduction
  • Develop tools, reports, and analysis from multiple data sources (ie. Ryder/RyderGyde, Geotab/Gridline, Lytx, Omnitracs/Fleet View) that are easy to access, understand, and use to track results and impact the business
  • Build strong relationships nationally in the National Operations organization and with key functional and corporate teams, creating pathways for collaboration, consistency & efficiencies
  • Build tools that enable fact-based metrics on Last Mile and Fleet Operations, finding and scaling best practices nationally
  • Maintain confidentiality of all Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits business and comply with all company rules and regulations as outlined in the employee manual;
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • 10+ years of overall work experience required or 5+ years & MS/MBA
  • Working knowledge of fleet maintenance operations, telematics analytics (Geotab/Lytx), and vendor portals (Ryder/RyderGyde); familiarity with FMCSA/DOT (HOS, DVIR, Vehicle Maintenance etc.)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interfacing with all levels of the organization, from hourly workers to senior leadership
  • Excellent interpersonal, partner service, analytical/problem-solving, and problem-management skills; advanced Excel and data visualization/dashboarding ability
  • Excellent presentation development and delivery skills

Physical Demands

  • Physical demands for a considerable amount of time include sitting and typing/keyboarding using a computer (keyboard, mouse, and monitor).
  • Occasional to rare walking, bending, reaching, standing, and stooping, including periodic site/shop visits.
  • May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 20 lbs.
