Overview
Southern Glazer’s Internship Program
The Southern Glazer’s Internship Program was established to develop the next generation of Sales, Trade Development, Operations, Technology and Corporate leaders. Each summer, the program offers interns the opportunity to engage in career building activities while simultaneously learning and applying industry-leading practices.
This hands-on experience gives interns the chance to explore and understand the adult beverage industry. The knowledge gained from industry leaders will allow you to build a network of professionals within the beverage alcohol industry and here at Southern Glazer’s. Being a Southern Glazer’s intern means you’ll be invited to our Leadership Spotlight Series, a Community Service day exclusive to our intern class, as well as access to Professional Development workshops and trainings!
Internship Overview
The Intern works in one area of our business or a variety of teams including but not limited to: Merchandising, Sales, Marketing, Special Events, and Warehouse & Delivery to gain knowledge and understanding of the alcohol distribution industry. The structured internship opportunity is designed to give students exposure to the wine and spirits industry and broad experience in various aspects of the relationship between marketing, sales, and distribution.
Primary Responsibilities
- Work with a variety of teams to become familiar in all aspects of the Sales Divisions
- Support the Sales departments which include, but are not limited to Category Management, Distribution Warehouse Sales (DWS), Point of Sales (POS), Chain Merchandising Divisions and Graphics
- Participate in training, on-site meetings, and department-wide learning opportunities as available
- Participate in the setup, working off and tear down of any special events, tastings, or functions as directed by the Supervisor
- Assist with our On-Premise Surveys
- Support the team with additional projects as assigned and defined by student's specific learning goals
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Additional Primary Responsibilities
- Creation, enhancement, and administration of reporting programs and systems (Tableau, SET, Liquid Program Manager, etc.)
- Assist with maintenance of the data sources
- Input corporate and supplier programs into designated business intelligence applications (i.e., Liquid Program Manager, etc.)
- Track, review, verify, analyze, and report accurate results to Commercial leadership and/or field team
- Provide guidance where applicable to identify system deficiencies and analyze problems/possible solutions
- Support program management and execution on regional and local strategic optimization and performance improvement efforts
- Evaluate past program success/failure trends; use trend analysis to advise stakeholders on proposed programs
- Provide accurate insights on live program performance and evaluate ROI on key initiatives
- Follow established reporting and documentation standards to ensure uniformity throughout the organization
- Provide analysis on Route-to-Market design, sales planning/execution, sales force size/coverage, Org. Structures, etc.
- Support performance management initiatives including compensation/incentive design, development of KPIs
- Analyze & identify customer-centric business growth opportunities. Support Sales & Marketing stakeholders with a data-driven roadmap for sales execution; reporting provided is production-ready and mobile capable
- Create ad-hoc queries & reports as needed and provide accurate and timely results consistent with state/region/national standards
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Reside in the vicinity of the internship or have the ability to obtain housing
- Must be a Junior in college and graduating the following year completing a BS/BA in Business, Finance, Marketing, Analytics, MIS, Data Management and/or comparable from an accredited university
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint. Training with Tableau, SQL, or Amazon Redshift
- Demonstrated analytical ability and able to build presentations and business cases
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
- Able to organize priorities and work under deadlines while producing a high-quality result in a team environment
Physical Demands
- Physical demands include a considerable amount of time sitting and typing/keyboarding, using a computer (e.g., keyboard, mouse, and monitor), or adding machine
- Physical demands with activity or condition may occasionally include walking, bending, reaching, standing, and stooping
- May require occasional lifting/lowering, pushing, carrying, or pulling up to 20lbs
